Well here I am at the beginning of the second week, and this is the second social networking site that I've signed up to! So I'm progressing. So far this one seems a little easier to enrol onto and therefore follow than flickr - or am I getting more experienced?
As I write this I do wonder about the security of this site as my e mail address is at the top, although of course it may not appear on the posted blog (update - but then I looked and it did). The issue of security has been an interesting read for me in the course readings.
As another discussion starter I don't think I'm a digital immigrant or native, rather I'd like to classify myself as a digital acceptor - that is one who accepts digital 'stuff'. Does anyone have any thoughts on this??
Bye for now..................
Also managed to sign up to delicious and have started using a wiki that someone else has created. The latter does not seem so intuitive in that I'm not always sure if something is going to be saved.

Hi Polly
All of us on the course live in an interesting age - we've all grown up (to some extent) without IT, then it's come to us. I clearly remember when I first discovered email, then the Web, then blogs, wikis, and only in the last year, social software. So I guess I've accepted IT as it's come my way - with both enthusiam and cynicism..
I don't particularly agree with the concepts of digital natives, as digital technology is such a muilti-faceted thing.
Thanks, Jim.
Polly like Jim i don't agree with the concept of digital natives but i like your idea of a digital acceptor. I think this is a much more realistic approach to how a lot of people use IT.

Hi Polly,
Yes indeed: digital native v digital immigrant is a very dodgy metaphor. Can I be a digital bogus asylum seeker please?
I like the "acceptor" idea, or the "driving license" concept, as in the ICDL.
Cheers
Sarah
